Patnem Overview

Patnem Beach, Goa is quickly becoming the trendiest beach in the South of India. Being far more relaxed than Palolem to the north, and host to a handful of yoga retreats, Patnem is a true beach paradise.   Backed with beach shacks and restaurants, the beach is pristine with excellent water for swimming. Several of the beach shacks offer beach chairs with umbrellas, however Patnem beach is far from over developed.

The beach road at Patnem is lined with stalls selling various trinkets, clothing and local spices. The vibe at Patnem beach is relaxed and somewhat more exclusive than other Southern Goan beaches, with a host of restaurants serving up European style coffees and dishes at premium prices. Most of the visitors at Patnem beach are from the UK or Germany and seeking spiritual practice, healing, or just looking for there own chilled out slice of paradise. Apart from a few beach shacks staying open late and serving up drinks, there is little nightlife in Patnem. If you’re looking for a night out, your best bet is to head up to Palolem.

Getting around Patnem is best by foot because it’s size, however there are options to hire a taxi, car, rickshaw or motorbike to get you to and from nearby towns. Transport links to locations in north Goa such as Panaji, Old Goa, Arambol, Anjuna beach, and Baga beach can be arranged by trains at Chaudi via Margao, or taxis.   Patnem is a short walk to its northern neighbor, Colomb, as well as Palolem (1.5 Km).

Things to do in Patnem

Patnem Beach

Clearly the big draw to Patnem is the beach.   Spending a day at Patnem beach generally includes sunning yourself on one the many beach beds, swimming to cool off, and chillin’ in one of the many shanty restaurants that back the beach. Patnem beach is beautiful and has many paradise type qualities. Patnem beach sand is fine and white. When the tide is low the beach is excellent for running and beach combing.
