Overview : It's beautiful. You'll want to spend your life here. There are a lot of tourists, but many of them are Indian pilgrams going on the Char Dam. I met some great people in Rishikesh.
Things to see and do : Go to all the temples/ashram. Do yoga. Go to the Puja at the ashram by the river with the Arjuna chariot statue; they have wonderous music--chants over tabla.
Hotels and places to sleep : Lots of great guest houses. Try to be close to the river.
Eating and drinking : Chotiwallah! you can't miss it. Also, there's a great rooftop resturant by the river, above the bookstore, I think.
